How Do I Know If I Have Storm Damage To My Roof? | Hercules Homes

Updated: Jan 6

There are a few signs that you may have storm damage to your roof. Here are a few things you can look for from the ground:

  1. Missing or damaged shingles: If you notice that you have missing or damaged shingles, this could be a sign of storm damage from strong winds. Wind can crease shingles which compromises their integrity and this cannot be seen from the ground typically.

  2. Leaks: If you notice water stains or leaks in your ceiling or walls, this could be a sign that your roof has been damaged in a storm but could also be a poor installation or an aging roof.

  3. Debris: If you notice debris, such as branches or leaves, on your roof or in your gutters, this could be a sign that your roof has been damaged in a storm.

  4. Damage to other parts of your home or vehicles: If you notice damage to other parts of your property, such as broken windows or dents in your siding/gutters, this could be a sign that your roof has also been damaged in a storm because soft metals and window screens are usually the first to show damage. Also check for dents in your automobiles as it's a very similar concept!

If you suspect that your roof has been damaged in a storm, it's important to have it inspected as soon as possible to determine the extent of the damage and to make any necessary repairs. A lot of damages cannot be seen from the ground so even if you think your roof is fine, almost all roofs have some sort of damage that can be addressed by a trained roofing professional whether its just a small repair to prolong your current roof or working towards a full roof replacement.
